Forest Pools is the secret place of recreation of the locals. Here people meet, mix and mingle for a good time on weekends and nice evenings. Also you can dress your tent, or stay in a camper for the night. There is a long drop toilet on site.

The water is crystal clear and invites for a swim. The river is well known for its trout and refreshing water quality.

Baron De Thierry had his residence in Rangiahua, about 250 m from State Highway 1. There is a plaque marking the location about 400 metres before the turn off to Horeke, coming from Okaihau. Some buildings are still (unfortunately) rotting away in the paddocks of the farm on which the buildings stand.
