The Governor's Tree

Governor's Tree

Governor's Tree

Lord Onslow, the then Governor General, visited Waimamaku in 1890 or 91, and was treated to an outdoor feast under the triple-trunked puriri tree, near where the cheese factory later stood (now close to the Four Square shop). It was Lord Onslow who christened the tree the "Governor's Tree" by which name it is still known.
