B&B accommodation in historic house near Hokianga Harbour Horeke

Riverhead Guest House

Riverhead Guest House is situated on the upper end of the Hokianga Harbour at Horeke overlooking the head of the tidal harbour and the mouth of the Waihou River. It is a fine old kauri colonial style house, which was built in 1871 and extended and ‘modernised’ in 1912. It remained unchanged from that time until the early 1980’s when it was bought, resited and restored by the Holdaway family who resided in it for approximately 20 years.

Your hosts – Ross and Dianne Ravenhall – took ownership in 2012 of the property which has been redecorated and restored with original features maintained such as the varnished woodwork and polished brass fittings. Today we also have the benefit of modern appliances expected in a modern guest house.

Directions:

We can be found by turning south off the State Highway 1 approximately 15km north of Okaihau at the ‘Horeke’ signpost, and following the road signs to Horeke for a distance of about 10km.

If you are travelling on the Twin Coast Discovery Tour from Waipoua Forest, turn left past the Taheke Hotel at the Riverhead Guest House signpost. Follow the road for 17km into Horeke.

The house is a prominent landmark in the village and is signposted to show the entrance to the driveway.
